Porpoise Bay Provincial Park at a glance
Porpoise Bay Provincial Park lies 4 km north of Sechelt, reached by Sechelt Inlet Road. The park has a sand beach, the Angus Creek trails and an estuary area where the creek meets the water. The beach faces the inlet, not the open Strait of Georgia, so expect a different setting from the beaches on the Strait side of town.
Most visitors come for one of three things: a night at the campground, an afternoon on the beach, or a walk along the creek. If you would rather be on the water than beside it, look at Sechelt Inlet kayak tours and rentals, which start from the same inlet.

Porpoise Bay Provincial Park camping in 2026

Kayak tours, inlet cruises and day trips from Sechelt and Vancouver, with live prices and availability.
Beach, Angus Creek trails and the estuary
The beach is sand, which makes it easy for children and for anyone launching a paddleboard or small kayak. There is no lifeguard service. Water conditions change with weather and tide, so check them yourself before you let children wade in.
The Angus Creek trails follow the creek toward the estuary, where fresh water mixes with the inlet. They are short walks rather than a hiking day. If you want a longer outing, drive on to Smuggler Cove, where the walk to the water takes roughly 40 minutes each way.
Beaches on the Strait of Georgia side are described on our Sechelt beaches page, including Davis Bay, Snickett Park and Sargeant Bay.
Park rules to know before you arrive
- Fires: only at the 3 shared fire sites. You cannot light a fire at your own campsite.
- Dogs: keep them on a leash. They are not allowed on the beach.
- Winter: outside the season, the usual campground gates are closed. Winter camping is possible only at the group site, and it comes with no services.
How to get to Porpoise Bay
By road it is a short drive from the centre of Sechelt. By air it is a seaplane landing from Richmond.
By car
Follow Sechelt Inlet Road north from Sechelt for 4 km. If you are coming from Vancouver, the BC Ferries crossing from Horseshoe Bay lands in Langdale, and the drive on to Sechelt takes about 30 minutes. Details are on our ferry and getting there page.
By seaplane
A seaplane flies between Richmond (YVR South) and Porpoise Bay in about 20 minutes. It is a summer service; in 2026 it began on 26 June, so confirm the current schedule before you plan a winter trip. Fares start at CAD 108 one way in 2026 when you book about 45 days ahead, and the number of seats is limited. The base in Porpoise Bay is at 5764 Wharf Road.
Not the same airport
YVR South is separate from the downtown Vancouver terminal. In Sechelt, the seaplane dock at Porpoise Bay is also separate from the land airport at Wilson Creek.
