Sechelt weather in short

Sechelt weather follows a simple pattern. The town sits on the southern Sunshine Coast between the Strait of Georgia and the Sechelt Inlet. July and August are the warmest and driest months, with average highs of 21.4 °C and 21.3 °C. November is the wettest month, with 165.0 mm of precipitation. Winter days stay cool and wet, and the average low stays above freezing in every month.

The table on this page uses historical climate averages for the 1981 to 2010 reference period from the Merry Island Lightstation weather station. They describe what is typical, not what will happen on your dates. Highs and lows are monthly averages of daily values, not records, and precipitation is the total water equivalent, including snow. If you want to be on the water in the dry months, compare Sunshine Coast boat trips and tours. The same coast is covered from the other side by the guide to Roberts Creek weather.

Weather and your travel plans

The Sunshine Coast is a peninsula, so most visitors from Vancouver take the BC Ferries crossing from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale, which is scheduled at 40 minutes, and then drive about 30 minutes to Sechelt. Check the current sailing status on the day you travel. The seaplane from Richmond to Porpoise Bay is a summer route in 2026. Details are on the getting there page.

Pack for rain from October to March, and bring layers in every season, because the difference between a summer high of 21 °C and a spring high of 12 °C is large. If you are choosing a base for your trip, the where to stay page compares the areas.

Sechelt weather: frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit Sechelt?

Is sechelt.org an official weather or tourism site?
